Step-by-step instructions on how to submit final grades from Canvas to Anthology

Canvas is a web-based (LMS) Learning Management System that helps educators create, deliver, and track online courses. Anthology Student is a cloud-based (SIS) Student Information System that helps A.T. Still University manage student data, including enrollment, financial aid, and academic records. In order to get final grades from Canvas to Anthology here are step-by-step instructions on how to submit final grades in your courses.

It is important to note that you may only sync your grades from Canvas to Anthology once. Once a grade has been sent, you must submit a grade change form (requires ATSU login to access) to change an incorrect grade. If you suspect all the grades were wrong, please contact ATSU Enrollment Services office for assistance.

Prerequisites (in Canvas)

Instructions

Enable the Course Grading Scheme

  1. To enable the Course Grading Scheme go to the Settings page for the course.
  2. Scroll down to the Grading Scheme section and check the Enable course grading scheme checkbox.
  3. Click the Set grading scheme link.
  4. In the Grading Scheme dialog box, select the grading scheme that you want to use.
  5. Click the Save button.

To see the actual grade that will be sent to Anthology, instructors can export the gradebook to a CSV file to use in a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. In your spreadsheet program, scroll to the right until you see the hidden “Final Grade” column. This column contains the letter grade that will be synced with Anthology if the Final Grade Override tool is not used. The “Final Grade” column is read-only, so instructors cannot edit it. To override the final grade, instructors must enable the Final Grade Override tool and enter the correct grade in the “Override” column in the Gradebook.

Here’s how to turn on the Final Grade Override tool:

  1. In Canvas, go to the Grades page for the course.
  2. Click the gear icon at the top right.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Check to Allow Final Grade Override.
  5. Click Apply Settings.
  6. The Final Grade Override column will appear at the far right of the Gradebook, right next to the Total column.

How to manually enter Final Grades

  1. In Canvas, go to the Grades page for the course.
  2. Scroll to the right and locate the Final Grade Override column.
  3. To ensure that students receive the grade you want to send to Anthology, manually enter the exact grade in the “Final Grade Override” column. This will override the grade that Canvas automatically calculates.
  4. Click the Sync Grades to SIS button.
  5. A confirmation message will appear. Click OK to proceed.

That’s it! The final grades have been transferred from Canvas to Anthology.

Again, it is important to note that you may only sync your grades from Canvas to Anthology once. Once a grade has been sent, you must submit a grade change form (requires ATSU login to access) to change an incorrect grade. If you suspect all the grades were wrong, please contact ATSU Enrollment Services office for assistance.
