Web Browser: Clear Cache

Why should you clear your cache? Your browser tends to hold onto information, and over time it could cause problems with logging in or bringing up websites. It’s always a good idea to clear out the cache, or browser history, and clear cookies on a regular basis.

You can also try switching to a different browser. For example, if you are using Google Chrome, switch to Mozilla Firefox, and visa versa. (Please don’t use Safari, Internet Explorer, or Microsoft Edge.)

Here’s how to quickly and easily clean out your Firefox or Chrome browser’s cache.

This is a maintenance step that should be done regularly!

  • With your browser open to any page, hold down the “Ctrl” key (“command” key on a Mac) and the “Shift” keys simultaneously, then press the “Delete” key.
  • In Firefox, the “Clear all history” window will appear. In Chrome the “Clear Browsing Data” window will appear.
  • Leave the default selections checked.
  • In Firefox, select “Everything” from the “Time range to clear” drop-down menu, and click the “Clear Now” button. In Chrome select “the beginning of time” from the “Obliterate the following items from” drop-down menu, and click the “Clear browsing data” button.
  • Turn your computer all the way off. No power. Please do not skip this step.
  • Start your computer, let it boot up, launch a web browser (Firefox or Chrome please). You should be able to get into your site now.
